The Sliding Career of Satan

The Sliding Career of Satan
We first read of Satan in Genesis chapter 2 when he appears to Adam and Eve as a serpent, who manipulates and deceives them into eating the fruit that was forbidden to them, thus causing sin and brokenness to enter the world. However, Satan's story started before then, because the great enemy of God was not always the enemy of God. In fact the career of Satan started out quite well. It could be said of him that he worked his way from the top to the bottom, which is exactly what scripture records for us.

Getting Ready For Canaan

by Mervyn Paul

Have you ever felt that life was useless, meaningless, and that nothing you could do was worthwhile? Some of us who have been “laid on the shelf” feel this way rather keenly at times. Then, too, there are so many of the Lord's people who are crying out of the depths of sorrow and perplexity, “Why, oh Lord? Oh, why did this have to happen to me?” Others seek to comfort themselves with the thought, “There must be some good reason.”

Tried By Fire

Tried By Fire
Occasionally, I go by a site whereon a house has stood, now destroyed by fire. Pausing for a moment to look over the place, I then pass on with reflective thoughts of a time when, not houses, but lives of Christians shall be, “tried with fire.” I notice a brick chimney is left upright, standing securely on its solid stone foundation, the central figure in a picture of desolation. Strewn around are to be seen the pieces of indestructible materials “proved” by fire; not much of what once stood on the place.
