Home Euro AmbitionsBy Tony Pearce - Light for the Last DaysWhile we see the rise of different regional governments described in the previous article the model being used for the coming together of nations is the European one. Europe sees itself as the emerging leader of the globalisation process which is in itself significant as the EU is in the territory of the old Roman Empire. The prophecies of Daniel and Revelation indicate that there will be a revival of the Roman Empire in the last days of this age. Many in Europe believe their time has come. An art exhibition staged outside the European Commission in Brussels was entitled: ‘Roman Empire Returns.’ It predicted that the EU will be renamed ‘The Union’ once it grows to 50 states over the next three decades. The United Nations headquarters will be moved to Gibraltar, considered a strategic site at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. This will be as ‘The EU defends the international order against the American onslaught.’ According to slogans at the art exhibition the European Union is poised to overtake America to become the world’s number one superpower. It has ambitions to extend its influence and power deep into Eurasia, North Africa and the Middle East and for the euro to replace the dollar as the world’s leading currency. The exhibition was full of anti-American slogans while European hostility to US power has been heightened by the re-election of George Bush. European leaders dislike the Bush administration’s reliance on its military might rather than UN backed diplomacy in the War on Terrorism and the backing they perceive America to be giving to Israel. In European politics any mention of God is considered bad form, so Mr Bush’s Christian profession and support from born again Christians is also highly suspect on this side of the Atlantic. With America overstretching itself in Iraq and becoming increasingly unpopular throughout the world, Europe’s leaders believe their hour is coming when they will have the decisive voice in world events. European leaders scoff at America’s ‘Moral Majority’ while an ‘Immoral Minority’ is allowed to dominate its political landscape imposing its views on the rest of the population. The decision to throw out the European Commission by the European Parliament in October 2004 was because of the ‘extreme’ views of the Italian commissioner Rocco Buttiglione. These are the views he expressed: ‘I may think of homosexuality as a sin, but it has no effect unless I say it is a crime.’ ‘Strong responsible and reliable individuals are not produced by sexual revolution, but rather are born and educated in morally healthy families.’ Mr. Buttiglione’s unforgivable sin in the eyes of the European Parliament was to say that homosexuality is a sin (although he stressed that this was his private opinion and that homosexuals should not be penalised in society) and that children do better in two parent families where there is a respect for morality. In other words he expressed opinions which are not politically correct, therefore he is unfit to serve in high office in Europe, despite the fact that probably the majority of people in Europe agree with him. This event shows the way that Europe is fast becoming a totalitarian state where one cannot express any opinion which deviates from the views of the liberal left elite who control public life. The MEPs who threw out the Commission because of Mr Buttiglione’s views had nothing to say about the fact that Brussels is awash with fraud, that 95% of the accounts have not been properly audited, that it is pouring out endless regulations which are tying up people in knots and destroying initiative, that seven of the new commissioners from eastern Europe are former Communists with a record of colluding with tyranny. About these issues they have nothing to say, but touch the issue of homosexuality and say the wrong thing and you are finished in the Brave New World of Euroland! Those who expose the corruption at the heart of Brussels had better be careful. German journalist, Hans-Martin Tillack, who wrote a series of articles exposing EU fraud was held incommunicado in a prison cell while his material was seized by armed Belgian police. As in the Soviet Union, power is in the hands of political functionaries who pass endless laws making life more and more difficult for the people, make claims to be working for the good of all while paying themselves huge salaries with massive perks allowing them to live in luxury. The EU is already involved in the Middle East peace process through the ‘Road Map’ which includes the EU, USA, Russia and the UN. EU policy is critical of the US as it puts forward its own proposals, which would demand much more of Israel in terms of withdrawal from territories occupied in the Six Day War. The EU foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, who is likely to become Foreign Minister when the Constitution comes into place, has stated that Israeli withdrawal from Gaza is just the beginning of a general Israeli withdrawal which would see the Old City of Jerusalem back in Arab hands as the capital of Palestine. With Europe facing a greater dependency on Middle East oil in the coming days, it is clear that any foreign policy coming out of Europe will be seeking to favour the Arab world and willing to sacrifice Israel’s interests for its own. Israel’s Prime Minister Sharon has noted that ‘Europe has a problem with anti-Semitism.’ The issue of religion is on the agenda of the EU. Despite lobbying from the Vatican, there is no mention of God or Christianity in the Constitution. In an article on this issue, Newsweek (8/11/04) notes that ‘Europe’s religionists are fighting back.’ It describes a new alliance between Catholics and Muslims to address Europe’s moral crisis with ‘a new ethics founded in ‘natural law’’. Interestingly this article does not even mention Protestants, despite the fact of the historic division between Catholicism and Protestantism in Europe. Maybe this is because most Protestants are entering into union with Rome anyway and playing down the differences between the two branches of official Christianity. Putting all this together we have an emerging power based on treaties signed in Rome, in the territory of the Roman Empire, using treachery to reach its goals, increasingly restricting freedom of speech and conscience, opposed to biblical Christianity, with a growing problem of anti-Semitism, wishing to extend its influence and power into the Middle East and to mediate a solution to the Arab Israeli problem. This solution would involve a demand that Israel withdraw from the Old City of Jerusalem and thus divide that city again. The book of Revelation chapter 17 prophesies power in the last days of this age in the hands of a woman sitting on a beast. This symbolises a political power in alliance with a corrupt religion. Outside the Council of Europe building in Brussels there stands a statue of Europa (a woman) being carried off by a bull, a picture of the Greek myth of the Rape of Europa. In other words it is a woman riding a beast (Revelation 17). The beast has horns shaped like a crescent moon. The woman points to Mary worship and Roman Catholicism and the horns shaped like the crescent moon to Islam. This chapter also speaks of ‘seven kings. Five have fallen, one is and one is yet to come’ (Revelation 17.10). The one that ‘is’ in John’s time was the Roman Empire. This Empire is to revive again in the last days bringing in a dictatorial regime ruled by the Beast or Antichrist (Revelation 13). As Europe seeks to unite it needs a powerful charismatic leader to speak to its people and to the whole world, offering peace and a solution to the most difficult diplomatic problem of all – the Arab-Israeli conflict and the status of Jerusalem (Zechariah 12-14, Luke 21). This one is prophesied in the Bible as the Man of Sin (2 Thessalonians 2) or the Beast (Daniel 7, Revelation 13), also known as the Antichrist (1John 2.18-19). He is also described as the ‘prince to come’ in Daniel 9.26-27, the one who will make a false peace covenant with Israel which will break down and lead to the final conflict which will end with the Lord Jesus returning to the earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Some of the information for this article comes from Alan Franklin whose book ‘EU Final World Empire’ is a useful source of information.
