Prophetic Witness - October 2011Lessons of the Riots

by Tony Pearce

The riots that exploded across our cities and TV screens in August, shocked Britain, destroyed millions of pounds worth of property and exposed what David Cameron called 'the slow motion moral collapse' of our society. Many commentators pointed out how government agencies and the state have fuelled the 'worst aspects of human nature'.

Prophetic Witness - September 2011Where Should Israel's Borders Be?

by Tony Pearce

In September 2011 the UN General Assembly is scheduled to vote on 'Palestinian Statehood' regardless of whether or not any agreement has been made with Israel on this subject. As things stand it is likely that a two-thirds majority of the 192 nations in the UN will vote in favour of the declaration of a Palestinian State within the 1967 borders. A UN General Assembly resolution will not make....

Prophetic Witness - August 2011China Rising -
What Can Stop Her?

by Jon Ikin

Henry Kissinger's latest book is called, "On China." It tells you where his thoughts are and perhaps where ours should be as well. China is an emerging superpower in the world, and in some minds a super threat. She has the money, the motives and the military power to project herself in a less-than friendly way upon even the biggest nations. Are we about to see a new cold war (or even a hot one) develop? Many think so. Students of Bible prophecy know enough to sit up and take note. The Lord Jesus warned that in the last days there would be, "rumours of wars" (Matthew 24:6), and the current speculation about China would definitely fall into that category.

Prophetic Witness - July 2011Zephaniah 3
The Great Day of The LORD

The first part of Zephaniah's prophecy is mostly a warning of judgement coming on Judah and the nations. This would reach its climax in the event described as the day of the Lord. Zephaniah 1:14-16 described that day:

'The great day of the LORD is near; it is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the LORD is bitter; there the mighty men shall cry out. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of devastation and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, a day of trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high towers.'

Prophetic Witness - June 2011Countdown to Calamity

by Tony Pearce

Many people are waking up to the fact that the world really is threatened with disaster on multiple fronts - the spread of weapons of mass distruction, the threat of economic collapse, the dependency of the world system on oil which will run out, the environmental issue, the Middle East conflict, violence and lawlessness abounding, breakdown of family life and the resulting insecurity facing millions. All these lead people to ask 'Is the world as we know it coming to an end?'

Prophetic Witness - May 2011Two Great Days,
Two Great Doctrines

by Harold L. Willmington

The first day, May 24, A.D. 33, marked the spiritual birth of the church in Jerusalem. The second day, May 14,1948, marked the national rebirth of Israel in Tel Aviv.

The first event supports the view that the church is neither a continuation nor a replacement of Old Testament Israel. The second event supports the view that God is not finished with Old Testament Israel.

The remainder of this article will briefly examine the circumstances and implications of each day.

The First Day

Both covenant and replacement theologians teach that the church has become God's elect people, instead of Israel. But this is not the case, as seen by the following eight arguments.

Prophetic Witness - April 2011The Crucial Cross

Part 1 by Rev. Ian McPherson (former editor)

There are several viewpoints and vantage-points from which the Cross may be contemplated. Four call for special mention. The Cross is kaleidoscopic. It may be regarded in the following four aspects: (1) the Cosmic Cross; (2) the Prophetic Cross; (3) the Historic Cross and (4) the Symbolic Cross.

Look at them in that order.

THE COSMIC CROSS

"The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" (Revelation 13:8). "I beheld, and, 10, in the midst of the throne, a Lamb as it had been (newly) slain" (Revelation 5:6).
We do not rightly read the Cross until we see it in a cosmic and eternal context. The crucifixion of Christ was no private affair conducted clandestinely in an obscure corner of a peripheral province in the ancient Roman Empire. It spans all space and transcends all time. Before it was an act in history, it was, a fact in eternity. "The cosmos," as Brian A. Greet neatly notes, "is cruciform."

In a previous chapter we reminded ourselves that God can never properly be spoken of as the Author of evil.

Prophetic Witness - March 2011The Signs of the Times

by Dr. Stephen Boreland

The doomsday clock appears on the cover of each issue of the 'Bulletin of Atomic Scientists' at the University of Chicago since 1947. On the clock midnight stands for total nuclear destruction while the minute hand represents the severity of the threat to the world of such destruction. The minute hand was first placed at seven minutes to midnight in 1947 and has been moved periodically over the years to reflect the current threat level to the world. It has been as distant as 17 minutes and as close as two minutes to midnight over the years since its inception, currently it stands at five minutes to midnight. If we were to use the doomsday clock to evaluate how close we were to the Lord's return and the end of the age it would probably be set at a lot closer than five to midnight it could even be as close as one minute to midnight.

Jesus said in respect to His return and the consummation of the age 'Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." Is His return and the end of the age that close and if so what  are the signs of it? There are five things which appear to be leaves upon the branches of the tree which suggest the nearness of Christ's return and the end of the age.

How the Internet is Fulfilling Bible Prophecy
by Jon Ikin

In 1969 four computers were joined together to form the grandfather of the internet. Workers at the United States Department of Defence Research Projects Agency (ARPA) wanted to create a flow of information between military installationsand other establishments. At the time they probably didn't realise that they had just made history, much less prepared the way for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Today 26% of the world's population are on the internet and by 2012 it is estimated that 500 million homes world wide will have broadband - a vital piece in the end times jigsaw. This article seeks to explore some of the ways in which the internet is helping to bring the prophecies of Scripture to pass.

Prophetic Witness - January 2011THE LAMB'S BOOK OF LIFE

by Martin Oliver

Before dealing with 'The Lamb's Book of Life', we need to look at what Scripture says in regard to 'The Book of Life' and the other books that will be opened, in the last days before the New Heaven and Earth are established. The Book of Life (also translated 'a scroll') has been in existence from before the beginning of time. It is a book of names, that God calls 'My Book,' of which Moses wrote in Exodus 32:33, when he interceded on Israel's behalf following their making a golden calf to worship. On that occasion Moses said to God, "please forgive their sin but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written" (See Exodus 32:32). The words 'blot out' literally mean 'rub out' or 'erase' both in the old Testament and in the New Testament. This introduces us to the subject of The Lamb's Book of Life, the exact interpretation of which is not without its difficulties. It is therefore not surprising that little Christian literature is devoted to this subject. Hopefully the following may help us to understand a little more of what God has planned and revealed in Holy Scripture. Firstly let us look more closely at The Book of Life.
