What in the World is Happening
- March 2008
A series of articles by Brian Papworth,
our PWMI Representative in New Zealand.
The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith
the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of
the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. Behold, I will make
Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about,…in that
day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that
burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces,[injure themselves]
though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it...
[Zech 12:1-3KJV].
With the latest visit of President Bush to the Holy Land
it makes one wonder if he reads his Bible. While he is trying to make
peace, if he were to study God's plan for His earthly people, he would
know that trying to talk Israel into giving up parts of the West Bank and
Jerusalem, in a barter for peace with the Palestinians, has not worked, is
not working, will not work and is not included in Gods future for His
land. Israel moved their people out of Gaza in a bid for a peace
agreement. The only thanks they received; were rockets fired by the
Palestinians into Israel, killing and maiming Israeli people. If Israel
retaliates, then the world news reports these attacks, as aggression by
Israel. Both Bush and the world news services, both refer to these areas
as "Occupied Territories". However they are God's land set aside
and promised to His earthly people. Bush has said publicly that Israel is
"unlawfully occupying" Judea and Samaria which he states is the
rightful "Palestinian national homeland". Whose law? Certainly
not God's.
A number of things have happened over the period during
and following Bush's visit to Israel, Palestine and the Middle East. It is
a strange coincidence that on the day of Bush's utterance, that a freak
and rare winter tornado outbreak in the US running through a small
Arkansas town called Jerusalem destroying the church and wrecking the
tombstones in the church cemetery, killing one person and making the world
news on CNN. Another indication that God is not very pleased with
President Bush and his policies appeared the day he was due to visit the
Palestinian leader Abbas in Ramallah, a thick fog descended over Jerusalem
and grounded his helicopters. So President Bush not heeding the Lords
leading on this occasion organized a 45 car presidential motorcade to take
him there instead. Let us pray that George Bush will realize the Lord is
trying to tell him that he is going in the wrong direction.
Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four
living creatures, saying "A quart of wheat for a days wages, and
three quarts of barley for a days wages" [Rev 6:6 NIV]. Although
it is not yet the time of the Tribulation, we can see the trends that are
leading us into that time of trouble which is due to come in the end
times. The startling fall in the world's stock markets, led by the United
States, [maybe a coincidence], is the fulfillment of what financial
prophets have been forcasting for several years. We know from Bible
prophecy that Europe will increase and the United States decrease. Many
nations are already making the Euro as the benchmark currency, instead of
the United States Dollar. With banks in the US tottering on the brink, and
many developing nations owing the US trillions which will never be repaid,
the United States economy has started to crumble. America relies on oil,
and with the demand now greater than the supply, the price of crude has
soared to over $US100 a barrel. Many things in the US run on oil: mainly
power stations, and transport. These in turn govern the cost of
manufacturing, building, food, heating, cooling, and clothing. The efforts
to manufacture Bio-fuel's has resulted in the increase in the price of
corn and wheat by 50%, and the increased clearance of rain forests
resulting in the worsening of the environmental efforts to cut greenhouse
gases. It turns out that the cost of bio-fuels is not only high, but in
most cases; the environmental cost of production defeats the saving they
make in the cleaner exhaust emissions.
The world is looking for a leader. The world economy is
fast approaching the disastrous conditions that prevailed in prewar
Germany when Hitler came to power. Another leader in Europe is in the
wings awaiting his time, when he will appear and apparently bring peace
and prosperity for a short time, until this man, the Devil incarnate,
turns out in his true nature and it all ends in disaster [Dan 7: 3-28],
[Rev 13:1-16], as did Hitler's rule of Germany. God will intervene to save
His earthly people and the world, and will rule in righteousness, King
over the all the Earth.
Let us ponder on these things as we head into an ever
darkening future. Night is falling and we might sing that old hymn: "Abide
with me fast falls the eventide, the darkness deepens Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee. Help of the helpless, oh,
abide with me".
There is a light shining in the future to all those who
love the Lord and await His appearing. I think it will not be long before
the Lord calls the Church home, but then the wonderful day is coming when
our Lord will be King of Kings and peace will fill the earth. "Seek
the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the
wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the
Lord and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely
pardon. [Isa 55:6-7 NIV].
Yours in His Service
