Powerpoint - October 2008

NOSTALGIA...

What a week! The Big Bang, the channel tunnel fire, the credit crunch, banking problems and stock markets in freefall. No wonder some will exclaim, - "give me the good old days!"

Nostalgia, the dictionary states, is "a sentimental yearning for the past." Humanly speaking this may be understandable to a point. For the Christian in these days, it may be helpful in reflecting on 'the good old days', but at the same time looking forward in keen anticipation to a glorious future.

For the writer, who has been involved with the Movement for many years, both in Council and at branch level, nostalgia is evident in remembering the days when hundreds attended our meetings, souls were saved & the message of the Lord's return was preached with such power by men who were giants in the evangelical world.

It has been the privilege of the writer over a number of years to have had fellowship with many of these men, and not least to have been involved with the local branch here in Blackburn for over 50 years. It is therefore with anticipation that we look forward to celebrating the branch's 90th Anniversary next month (for details see advert by clicking here).

Nostalgia, alright in its place, but it is the present & especially the future that should concern us most of all as we contemplate the return of Jesus Christ. Maranatha!

Roy Cook.

"One thing I do - it is my one aspiration; forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the supreme & heavenly praise to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward." (Philippians 3 v 13 & 14) (Amplified Version)
