(Zech. 8v23)The history of Israel at 60 is a commentary on the goodness and faithfulness of God. Since the foundation of the State in 1948 Gods preserving hand has been much in evidence. Whilst the horrors of the Holocaust were utterly appalling, resulting in the murder of 6 million Jewish people, Hitler's attempt to make Europe iudenrein (free of Jews) did not succeed. Just as the 1st World War saw Israel's return to their land, the 2nd World War resulted in Israel becoming a nation, with David Ben Gurion's declaration of the State of Israel. This was most certainly not Hitler's intention! Since then Israel has been preserved as a nation through the War of Independence in 1948, resulting in a victory for Israel against all the odds and despite the Arab's intention to "strangle the new state at birth". They have also survived the 1956 war and that of 1967 which resulted in their re-controlling the city of Jerusalem, as well as the Yom Kippur War of 1973, when all at one point seemed lost. Today Israel stands almost alone, anti-Semitism is rising in the world but with the knowledge that God is fulfilling and will fulfil his purposes for Israel we may have confidence that Israel's future is safe and in good hands. Praise His name. The scriptures are being fulfilled on a day to day basis, the desert blossoms. Israel fills the whole face of the earth with fruit and the exiles are returning from North, South, East and West, all in accordance with the word of God. Isaiah 27v6, 35v1 and 43v5 & 6. One day the scripture quoted will be fulfilled, meantime let us bless Israel in every way we can and God will bless us. Gen 12 v 3. Certainly, God will bless Israel his earthly people and Zech. 8v23 will one day become a reality. Congratulations to the State of Israel. David Hoyle
