Visiting the Philippines recently, where God is at work in a very real way, was refreshing. Returning to our godless and evil society was not such a happy experience. A Jewish friend rang me this morning to express sorrow at the abuse directed at him after he gave a talk to Christians in York in support of Israel. An Anglican minister who is involved with a group which expresses solidarity with the Palestinians and calls for a boycott of Israel, had a forthright discussion with him during which my friend explained to him that this was exactly the same as Hitler did in the 1930s. He was not pleased to be described as a Nazi. This, however, is absolutely justified, as many churches justify their Replacement Theology by a distortion of scripture raising memories of Hitler's appeal to anti-Semitic church leaders and the Bible for his evil views. The Archbishop of Canterbury blames Israel for the flight of Bethlehem's Christians. A total falsehood as Palestinian Muslims are the culprits. 'Brother Andrew' too in his recent book goes down much the same route, his forward being written by Stephen Sizer, not one of Israel's best friends. The rise of anti-Semitism, hatred of Israel, false doctrine and the calling of evil good as exemplified in our society all tell us the night is far spent. It is always darkest before the dawn and soon will come the golden daybreak and the return of our Saviour. It's time to rededicate ourselves to proclaim the great message of the hour - Christ is coming soon. 'Look up your redemption draws nigh'. David
