Monthly Comment - September 2010

To the Psalmist of old the light was upon the distant city wall for the benighted traveller, and the horn lamp was to show up pitfalls and waymarkers. Prophetically the light was Messiah's coming. Prophetically for the Church, Christ's coming again for us is the light, that "blessed hope and glorious appearing" (Titus 2: 13). Thereafter His return in power will be the light for Tribulation converts. The signs of the times illuminate current events and show us that we are still on track. If we are among the prophesied latter day scoffers, we will fail to notice God's graciously given waymarkers; yet they are becoming ever more frequent.

Monthly Comment - August 2010

The Bible, the very Word of God given to man should be the most precious thing to the Church. After all it tells us about the great salvation that God has worked through His Son, Jesus Christ. It tells of the beginnings of all things, the history of His nation Israel, the birth of the Church and of course, His glorious and triumphant return.

TEAMWORK

During the last few weeks our nation, like many others, has been gripped in World Cup fever. Every four years, 32 countries put together a squad of players and send out what is, ostensibly, their best team, in pursuit of the sports highest honour. .

But it's all about teamwork. It's about working together with a common aim, a common goal and hopefully a common joy at the end.

THE WRATH OF GOD IS COMING. So writes the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Colossians (3:6). One day soon the Creator will judge the world on account of the 'ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who ... suppress the truth' (Romans 1: 18). The good news for believers is that 'God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us' (1 Thessalonians 5:9). What wonderful assurance, and yet with such assurance comes responsibility.

Monthly Comment - May 2010

A few years ago, Alec Passmore remarked at one of our branch meetings that we are not looking for the signs of our Lord's return but we're looking at them. There are in fact four very dear signposts set in Scripture pointing to the nearness of the Saviour's coming for His Church.

Firstly, the Jewish people returning to a restored nation in unbelief, with Jerusalem it's capital a burdensome stone for the nations.
