The revelation of love's redeeming work on Calvary is written on every page of Holy Scripture from beginning to end. A startling New Testament statement about the everlasting Gospel of the cross is found in Galations 3:8 where we read:

“THE SCRIPTURE FORESEEING THAT GOD WOULD JUSTIFY THE HEATHEN {unbeliever} THROUGH FAITH, PREACHED BEFORE THE GOSPEL UNTO ABRAHAM, SAYING IN THEE SHALL ALL NATIONS BE BLESSED"

What an astounding statement we find here, that the Gospel was preached by the Lord through His Word to Abraham! We are all familiar with the Gospel according to Matthew, Mark, luke and John. However, here is the Gospel according to Abraham, some one thousand, eight hundred years before the lamb of God appeared.

Introduction.

A principle that needs to be kept in mind as we study the precious “word of God” is that all Prophecy centres in the person of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God.

Therefore we must never divorce a truth from the One who is the Truth. God has set His Son before men and He ever says to them, “ I am the way the Truth and the Life”

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Everything that is said to be truth has got to be tested against Jesus Christ who is the Truth. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Our Bible: The Most Critical Issue

Christianity is based on a book. It centres in a Person. It expresses itself in a message. It authenticates itself in an experience.

That basic book is the Bible. That central Person is Jesus.

That expressive message is the Gospel. That authenticating experience is the new birth.

Think here about that basic book. Christianity stands or falls with the Bible. It is no use saying, as the liberalists or modernists do, that so long as we have Jesus we do not need an infallibly inspired Bible.

Nay, all that we know authentically about the Lord Jesus we owe, and shall keep on owing, to the Bible. To say that so long as we have Jesus we do not need the Bible is about equal to saying that so long as we have the sunshine we don't need the sun.
