Monthly Comment - February 2010

Some churches are more concerned with "saving the planet" than saving the world. People pray for recovery from the current crises without praying for the penitence which is surely a prerequisite. With our national de-Christianisation, embracing of public blasphemy and rejection of God-given laws, we really wonder whether we can expect mercy in the meantime. God's patience always has a cutoff point Jesus said that that the world will come to the brink of extinction. "See, I have told you beforehand!" He warned. True believers will be taken home first; thereafter deterioration on earth will accelerate meteorically. Restoration of the planet will follow His return, not precede it. Our Creator can deliver what Copenhagen cannot.

I have long been aware of congregations where individuals complain that prophetic scriptures are ignored. But recently I encountered a city-centre church with splendid traditions, where the pastor longs to preach the Lord's return, but believes that were he to do so, the many students who currently attend would simply walk out. This tragic anomaly is not due to the students, but to their home churches. What does this say about the love of such churches? If they love their Lord, their aspirations are for their joyful reunion, not a desire to maintain the status quo.

When God commissioned Ezekiel as the prophet to the exiles, He warned them that they would not listen. Yet He did NOT excuse him from prophesying. Whatever reactions we anticipate, we MUST proclaim the the Coming of the Lord draws nigh.

There is a difference between a 'backs to the wall' determination t proclaim the Lord's approaching return and an infectious, confident expectation. It is this second attitude
that converts scoffers into eager watch keepers. It is more a privilege than a duty.
