THE ONE THING I MUST DO.

A New Year Message In his tender pastoral letter to the Philippians (it contains not a word of censure or rebuke) the apostle Paul declares a single-minded resolve to which he also exhorts his readers. Excluding all distractions and forgetting past failures, his readers are to pursue the relentless goal of "pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (3:14). He speaks of "counting all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord"... He also declares his passion to be "FOUND IN HIM" (3v9.) What wholesome and challenging words are these! As we start a brand new year, am I by grace "found in Him"? Is He my life's goal? This is indeed "the one thing I must do" and our solitary aim for the coming year - should Jesus tarry. For this to succeed I must "forget" my past confessed sins and failures - they are under the blood! I must with Godly resolve seek and "win" the Lord's highest and best! There is no higher calling for the believer. In the arresting words of a favourite hymn: |
